Functional Labs

Functional lab analysis differs from conventional lab testing by using narrower reference ranges that are based on a healthy population rather than the broader averages of the general population, which often include individuals with chronic illness.

This approach provides an in-depth view, allowing us to identify imbalances, nutrient deficiencies, and early patterns of dysfunction before potential advanced progression. The goal is to strive for optimal health.

If you are weary of trying one protocol after another and wondering why nothing seems to fit, this may be the next step in your journey.

Functional lab testing offers a deeper understanding of your unique physiology, providing insights that can help you make informed choices as you work towards healing, restoration and reconnecting with the version of yourself you have been missing.

Read on for detailed descriptions of the functional labs I offer in my practice.

Individual Testing:

gI MAp - $549

A comprehensive medical lab report from Diagnostic Solutions Laboratory, showing pathogen analysis in a stool sample for a patient named Ima Sample, including bacterial, parasitic, and viral pathogen results.

Gastrointestinal Microbial Assay Plus -

An easy, at-home stool test that evaluates the entire gut environment including the microbiome, digestive function, inflammation and immune function. Also identifies the presence of parasites, viruses, H. Pylori, Candida overgrowth and more.

Because the gut is closely connected to many of the body's systems, supporting gut health is often an important part of improving overall wellness and understanding persistent symptoms.

HTMA - $397

Laboratory report for a scalp sample from patient Susie, age 47. Contains tables of nutrient, toxic, and additional element levels with reference ranges.

Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis -

This test uses a small hair sample to analyze the body’s mineral status over a 3- month period. Minerals regulate every system in the body.  This assessment can provide insight into overall metabolic health as well as show nutrient deficiencies and even toxic metal exposures.

We can look at patterns that demonstrate how well the thyroid, adrenals and nervous system are functioning and much more.

DUTCH - $589

Lab report showing hormone testing summary with charts for estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, Androstenedione, cortisol, and DHEA levels with various ranges and measurements.

Dried Urine Testing for Comprehensive Hormones-

An in-depth hormone panel that uses urine samples collected at home to evaluate the production and metabolism of sex hormones as well as cortisol metabolism and the diurnal rhythm. Provides a detailed look at hormonal patterns, showing how the hormones are functioning.

Also includes organic acid markers which are used to evaluate nutrient deficiencies, melatonin and neurotransmitter production.

BLOOD-work

*prices start at $349

Laboratory report showing bile acid test results for a patient, including measurements for urso deoxycholic, cholic, chenodeoxycholic, and deoxycholic acids, with reference ranges and units.

Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis -

A comprehensive analysis of blood markers evaluating complete blood count, thyroid markers,  cholesterol panel, liver function, blood sugar, vitamin D and more.

Functional lab values are interpreted using a narrower range (the average of healthy individuals only) which allow us to identify imbalances in the early stage before disease develops.
